Today is the thirty-fifth day of the Omer, which is five weeks into the Omer. (Only two more until cheesecake holiday, yaaaaaay \o/ )

Yesterday, on Lag B'Omer, we went to the Camarillo Strawberry Festival. It was an appropriate, fruit-related activity. This festival only occurs here because the local cash crop is, in fact, strawberries. In the land of California, you can grow them all year round. So they hold an annual festival to celebrate the awesome of strawberries.

It was rather like a street crafts fair with all the booths and selling-stuff people. There were tents and people were displaying wares. There was pottery and glass and jewelry and woodwork and one lady demonstrating how to make sushi so as to sell her sushi-making kit; but we were not allowed to eat the sushi, so that one was a fail. There were sculptures made of metal and three-dimensional plaster pictures and paintings and needlepoint. There was one really gorgeous mirror with a surrounding wood inlay, all in different colors and grains of wood, and little hummingbirds in mother-of-pearl. And there were hats and a musician playing a nyckelharpa (which is an instrument from Sweden that sounds all medieval) and free booze samples (with valid ID).

And there were strawberries. Lots and lots of strawberries, in every imaginable form. Fruit, smoothies, ice cream, battered and deep fried, dessert pizza'd, and even strawberry beer. We just had some of the fruit and a smoothie, because everything else looked disgustingly decadent except the beer, which just sounded odd and also ick. Still. Straaaaaawberries.

And I got all-natural organic type scented soap for Panda. He doesn't like perfume and other kinds of scented oils because my grandmother thinks that if you can smell anything other than the perfume then yor doin it rong!!! but for some reason, he likes the soap. So I got him some.

Planning to be girly this week, and also do bee-related things. Yeeeey!

Then I got home all tires out, so I am writing it up today instead.

Yay for internet (and Google and YouTube). I poked it, and it cast forth a one minute video about nyckelharpa. That is cool thing, and it looks pretty versatile.

Deep friend strawberries sounds excessive and, frankly, disgusting.

Only two days until the cheesecake holiday, neat-o!

Yus. The guy playing it said it is very much like a violin. JJ was quite interested, because he played the violin in high school.

Well, battered and then deep fried, but I agree. That is why we didn't have any.

XD No, two weeks. As much as I'd love it to be tomorrow . . .

Oops. Sorry, the power of cheesecake compelled me.

I'm sort of disappointed that the sushi lady didn't make strawberry sushi (a nearby sushi place sells them, but, ahh... I don't really want to try them). I mean, it sounded like the perfect opportunity. (And no free samples to make you associate her product with delicious, delicious food? Bad strategy!)

It sounds like it was fun! Strawberries are pretty and delicious and they are so red and they smell good and okay no more ranting about strawberries.

I figured.

The lady said it was a health code thing, which I could see if she were making sushi with the raw fish. But no, she was making the cucumber kind. So, yes, bad strategy.

My family has this plan for a dessert sushi. We'd stuff it with fruits, and sweet rice-pudding, and make the outside wrapper bit out of fruit roll up . . . yes, we are strange ;P

Well, depending on the combination of flavors it could actually work pretty well.
