May. 24th, 2011 09:08 amToday is the thirty-fifth day of the Omer, which is five weeks into the Omer. (Only two more until cheesecake holiday, yaaaaaay \o/ )
Yesterday, on Lag B'Omer, we went to the Camarillo Strawberry Festival. It was an appropriate, fruit-related activity. This festival only occurs here because the local cash crop is, in fact, strawberries. In the land of California, you can grow them all year round. So they hold an annual festival to celebrate the awesome of strawberries.
It was rather like a street crafts fair with all the booths and selling-stuff people. There were tents and people were displaying wares. There was pottery and glass and jewelry and woodwork and one lady demonstrating how to make sushi so as to sell her sushi-making kit; but we were not allowed to eat the sushi, so that one was a fail. There were sculptures made of metal and three-dimensional plaster pictures and paintings and needlepoint. There was one really gorgeous mirror with a surrounding wood inlay, all in different colors and grains of wood, and little hummingbirds in mother-of-pearl. And there were hats and a musician playing a nyckelharpa (which is an instrument from Sweden that sounds all medieval) and free booze samples (with valid ID).
And there were strawberries. Lots and lots of strawberries, in every imaginable form. Fruit, smoothies, ice cream, battered and deep fried, dessert pizza'd, and even strawberry beer. We just had some of the fruit and a smoothie, because everything else looked disgustingly decadent except the beer, which just sounded odd and also ick. Still. Straaaaaawberries.
And I got all-natural organic type scented soap for Panda. He doesn't like perfume and other kinds of scented oils because my grandmother thinks that if you can smell anything other than the perfume then yor doin it rong!!! but for some reason, he likes the soap. So I got him some.
Planning to be girly this week, and also do bee-related things. Yeeeey!
Then I got home all tires out, so I am writing it up today instead.
