The Muse Hat
Apr. 7th, 2007 12:01 amThe process of the Muse Hat works like this. Muse Hat -> shiny brain thoughts -> Viagra for my plotbunnies -> lots o' energetic baby plotbunnies, teething and biting things -> drabbles of stuffs! So I asked Emmy to wear the Muse Hat. I may not write them all, but my plotbitches (that's female plotbunnies) are happy.

KimuraSato can fly on her own, her powers are the backbone of their Alliance, but there's something different and altogether wonderful about riding a creature as beautiful and powerful as a dragon. Ada is usually the one who rides FalseChaos, out of simple necessity; the gentle scholar is invaluable for strategy and the veritable encyclopedia she carries in her head (along with the fact that as a last-ditch defense she can steal the life-energy of everything in a twelve-mile radius) but she's not really a fighter. Still, few villains, however deranged, are stupid enough to take on a full dragon.
Kimu enjoys these midnight rides, wreathed in mist and the moonlight that shines above the clouds, when she and the great, intelligent creature that is FC wind and wrap around cloud formations and they can take a break from saving the world and just be themselves. It's surprisingly intimate, the way that Kimu has to shift and move, the way that FC has to work so that her rider does not fall. The way that they two must work together in perfect harmony.
Sometimes, Kimu is tempted to be jealous of Ada. This is usually right after they've returned from such a ride and before her muscles start to protest. And also before she next sees the artistic Dragon of Knowledge and remembers that compared to the responsibility Ada has, she's lucky just to have strength and flight.
FC begins her ascent so slowly that Kimu isn't even aware that they've passed the stratosphere until she sees a meteor go streaking past them, falling toward the earth below. She says nothing; once, she had asked the dragon how she was able to fly to the moon, which should have taken her months or years. FC hadn't understood the question until LaChatteNoire had explained the entire thing twice, and then her response, as near as anyone could tell, was, "It's there and we're here. I make us be there."
Which was not helpful, but near the outer edge of the thermosphere there was brief moment of disorientation as FC somehow flipped them across hundreds of thousands of miles of space and the moon was suddenly down while Earth was up.
Sitting on the edge of Copernicus looking down at the Earth is something that Kimu will never get tired of. And, even though she can't understand the dragon's words and the dragon can barely understand her (FC is still young, as dragons go, and only just learning English) she makes her meaning understood well enough: a casual arm draped over her friend's long, sinuous neck; careful scratches just above the sensitive eye ridge when the great, scaled head is placed in her lap; and joyful kisses to the blunt snout while FC snorts the draconic equivalent of laughter.
Based off a dream I had. R&R, please. Especially those who are in there by name, and Emmylove. I'll tell you your superpower if you've forgotten, or make one up for you if you didn't have one ;P
