Our rabbi just died. I mean, he was eighty-two and has been in and out of the hospital for the last month due to some heart thing. And they say it took him only a few hours to go from 'fine if irritated at all the hospital poking' to being dead, so there is that.

But still. No rabbi D:

In other, less sad news, today there was a runaway thermal event at work and it was not my fault*. It was Dr. Dave's fault. Because the heaters are supposed to heat, but if you don't ground them properly . . .

I meanwhile finally managed to get the 50% reading. I'd gotten all of the other ones, but for some reason 50% caused asplosions. Then I got on the phone with some UCSB people, and got myself a brand-spankin'-new ID so I can go one the (certainly massive) UC database and find articles of an interesting scientific nature. Which is to say, Dr. Dave wants access to full-text articles without having to pay the ridiculous fees, and I am technically enrolled.

. . . also, I am now into Dresden Files. Thank you, every one of my flisty friends who keeps talking about these books. On the other hand, the average quality of the fics in this fandom . . . okay, I can dig it.

Meh. Maybe I'll feel less ick tomorrow.

*A runaway thermal event is a four-letter word that begins with the letter F and required an extinguisher to deal with.

Sorry about your rabbi. My condolences.

FIRE! How exciting! But not in the way you'd wish, I bet!

DRESDEN FILES. Butcher balances the angst well. I mean, he puts Harry through hell, but he doesn't WALLOW in it. So there's that. New book's just out.

Thank you.

It was under a vent, so there wasn't much problem with fumes. Just, y'know, FIRE!

I know, but it will take me some time to get there. I am reading from the beginning, and planning to go in order, and that means my library will have to borrow from other local libraries. So it goes . . .

I'm sorry about your rabbi. :(

Hurry! Make all that scientific knowledge yours! Is there a time-limit to your ID?

I'm not into the Dresden Files fandom (I keep hearing good things about that series, I just might have to!), but these guys are very, very good at recs and critiques (it's a Harry Potter forum, but they're also into other fandoms and topics):

Hopefully something in there will be worthwhile!

He was a good rabbi. Ah, well.

Yes and no. As in, it will probably auto-deactivate sometime after I graduate . . . in six years XD

Ahaha, right now I am obsessively hoping that [livejournal.com profile] lightgetsin will quickly write another thing. That girl is good enough to be an author, IMHO. Very thinky things she writes.
