Vlad sometimes spends years without seeing his wife. He doesn't like to, but it happens on occasion - more so when there's a time differential, for the simple reason that she only experiences a few months, at most.
And then there are things like . . . this.
"So time is subjective?"
"Yes. It's an interesting way to put a world together, don't you think? Children take a long time to grow up and the days whiz by for elders. And for the dead-" she grins.

Ferric looked at Don. Don looked at Ferric.
Ferric said, "Don tried to kill me."
"I did not! I told you to get out of the country, but in no way does pinning you to a wall and threatening you count as 'trying to kill.'"
"Pinning him to a wall?" said Tabitha. "Not love at first sight?"
"Well, he didn't see me." Don grinned.
"You wanted me," said Ferric.
"Of course," said Don.
"Tell," said Tabitha.
So he did.
