But first, some helpful information about corporate reports. Someone puts a lot of time into making it difficult to write them. They must be formatted in this specific way, with these specific elements, in this specific order. I have to write one, and I'm about two pages in to the body of it. Already I am in pain.

In other news, Lucie-whose-cube-is-next-door, and the story of her ongoing Mouse Saga. It began several weeks ago when her computer spontaneously decided that her mouse was going to be a big white box, eighty pixels to a side. Try working with a mouse that size, and it soon becomes apparent that it Will Not Do. So she calls tech support, and the dudes in India cannot fix the problem. They send out an on-site dude to see if he can do any better. He can't, but determines that it is a hardware issue. Then he writes down the computer and specs and goes off to order things.

So yesterday, a different dude arrived. It turns out the the broken video card was an integrated card, meaning that he could not just reach around the back of the laptop and open the appropriate hatch and pull the old video card off to put a new one on. Oh, no. He took the laptop to (an impressively small number of) pieces, removed the motherboard whole, replaced it, put the computer back together, and rebooted it. I am most impressed with the astonishingly low number of screw (0) which he managed to lose or otherwise misplace. Also, of course, the memory cards. I have seen them before, of course, but I paid close attention of the basis of "I feel like expanding Equal's memory, and he's moving the physical component of memory around, so . . . " And everyone is right, it's easy snap-snap-together.

And the freaky square mouse of hujeness and dhoom was gone when he rebooted. It took him forty minutes, including the five-minute reboot cycle, to do the entire thing.

Also,I made Indian curry last night only I neglected to add half the salt and a lot of the spice, because MW does not like the spice so much. The result was very much sweeter than I am used to, and aromatic. I will have to try that again, with deliberateness. And also, naans. Because naans are good. MW kept eating it, so I think she liked it :D

Kal had not spent much time on Terra prior to his wedding.

Truth be told, he had spent almost no time at all on Terra, save for one completely unsanctioned trip.

"Vacation?" he asked, surprised. "On Terra?"

"It seems unfair to me," murmured Bruce in his ear, "that you've been able to show me so much of your world and you've only barely set foot on mine." He pulled Kal in a little, kissing the back of his neck. "Only if you want to, of course."

"Of course, Bruce, but-the terms of the treaty are that you're supposed to live here. We can't just leave."

"But Kal, by now everyone knows how much in love we are. They couldn't separate us if I wanted to show you the real House of Wayne, could they? And give you a real tour of Gotham."

Kal sighed. "This is one of those things you're not going to give up on, isn't it?"

"Mm," agreed Bruce, leaning in to kiss Kal again.

The jump to Gotham was nearly painless, but disorienting; the gravity between the two planets was close but not totally equal, and the sudden slight extra weight hit him hard enough to make him stagger. Bruce reached for his arm to steady him. "Careful."

"Always," said Kal. "So . . . the House of Wayne?"

"I was thinking we could go out for pizza first." Bruce has that smile. The one he used before doing something Terran and utterly, blindingly wonderful.

"What is pizza?"

Pizza was kind of food made by baking a kind of tangy sauce and cheese on a flatbread. Although he'd become used to some Terran flavors in the time since his marriage, many in the sauce were quite new and the older ones were present in an altogether new form. But it was good, he decided halfway through his first bite. Very good, he revised his opinion on the fourth slice.

So they ate pizza and Bruce explained more about Terra; that, unlike Krypton, the whole planet was not one united culture but many different ones. He'd known that, of course, but then Bruce explained that many of the cultures had their own styles of cooking and flavors. He could understand regional delicacies, and it seemed to be the same concept of a planetwide scale. Pizza was "Italian."

"And you'll show me all the different styles of food?" he asked, intrigued.

"Well, not all of them. I have a-social stigma against eating some foods, and there are others that you really can't get outside of the home region. But I did plan on showing you some," added Bruce.

And the meal continued on in the restaurant with no interruption even though they didn't "talk shop," as Bruce called it, until-

"Bruce!" he hissed, carefully averting his eyes.

"Yes?"

"That woman-why isn't anything being done for her?"

Bruce glances sideways, and his brow furrowed in confusion. He looked askance.

"Why isn't anyone mentioning the-the tumor in the stomach?" he said quietly.

Bruce's eyes brightened with sudden understanding. "Kal, she doesn't have a tumor. She's pregnant."

Kal's eyes widened. "But-"

"Kal, remember when I told you we don't have birthing matrices here?"

"I-oh. Couple who desire children must find a willing and compatible female to carry the child."

"Most couples on Terra are one male and one female, although same-sex pairings are becoming more common," said Bruce. "Often, a homosexual couple will adopt; Terran population control is poor at best, so there are always children who need good homes."

"That's-"

"I know," said Bruce. "That's why I'm working so hard get more Kryptonian technology released to Terra. One of the reasons. Although that woman-" he nodded, "looks perfectly healthy and happy to me. And her husband obviously loves her."

Kal turned a little to look as the man fussed about her. He didn't lavish that much attention on Bruce, but then again, pregnancy didn't exactly look comfortable either. Although Bruce was correct; the woman was practically glowing. And then her husband leaned over and gave her a quick peck on the forehead. Kal looked around quickly to see if anyone else had noticed, but only Bruce was looking at him, blue eyes dancing.

"And the-kissing? Is socially acceptable? In public?" he asked, to make sure.

"Yes," confirmed Bruce.

"Oh. Terra is very different," he said solemnly. Even with everything he'd learned, he'd only been on Terra a few hours and already he was being shocked by the differences.

"Yes, it is," said Bruce, "but I hope that's not a bad thing."

"I-" began Kal, and then decided there really weren't words for it. Instead, he got up and walked around the table and gave Bruce a peck on the forehead as well, a simple but heartfelt expression of his love. "Never a bad thing. I can hardly wait for you to show me what else is different about your planet."

Bruce said nothing, but his eyes glittered.

AWWWWWW! I'm in the airport at the beginning of my LJ-exile but I absolutely couldn't not comment on this. I mean, Kal learning about pizza from Bruce! And his worry about the poor lady with the tumor! *falls over giggling* And a spontaneous public display of affection...*purrs a great deal* Kal's just so game and happy, and Bruce is utterly huggable. Thank you, you've made my flight a happier thing. *grins*

Aww! This is so sweet! As Jen says, Kal is so game and happy here, and Bruce is a sweetie, too.

Pizza! LOL! It seems to be a favorite of our heroes, eh? ;)

I hope you write more about their vacation! :)

Yeah, I used to work on computers... I don't anymore cause I got tired of cutting my hands on the parts and getting migraines, but yes, most of the time, they are pretty easy to put together... it's getting them to work that's the problem... LOL

What a lovely companion to jenn_in_japan's universe. It was fun to read about Kal's enjoyment of pizza and the woman with a tumor was funny. Kal's PDA was sweet and I don't blame Bruce at all for his glittering eyes
