So, what do I do at work?
I remove dots.
Let's back up.
One of things which occurs, before and during a teardown, is that the car is scanned. White-light and red-light (laser) scanning are used to create 3-D models. It's similar to the process used with greensceen o make, for example, Gollum. It can pick up any matte surface, provided that it has reference points.
Thus, dots. Hundreds of them.
However, when the scanning is finished all the dots need be removed, so that when the car is sent back to fleet (if it's a partial teardown) or bits are photo'd for logging (in a complete teardown). So we had a dot-removing party.
Seven people, one dot-bedecked Passat, an hour.
My god. Dots.
