Underwhelming Day
Jul. 3rd, 2008 10:13 pmBut first, pretzels. Apparently pretzels have a rich and meaningful history, of which I knew nothing until today. It boils down to pretzels were invented as a treat for children who studied their bible verses. The pretzel bakers of Europe have a seal because they helped turn back the Turkish invasion, like good Christians. And then they were brought to America by bakers who didn't want to waste bread dough and so made soft pretzels at the end of the day.
The drive to Allentown was unremarkable. We listened to the first chapter of A Hat Full of Sky. Dad has steadfastly refused to sample the wonder that is Terry Pratchett, but he was laughing with the rest of us :)
The science museum was underwhelming. I mean, I suppose my standards are high due to the COSI museums, and the wonderful Chicago museums, that I more regularly go visit. But still. Science museums should contain science. I did, however, get a nice mug for putting my hot cocoa in: a diagram of a theobromine molecule.
Dinner, however, was delicious. Very garlicky. Very large amounts of food. And really caloric desserts, in case we hadn't had enough food already.
So. A Thing I've been sitting on months.
