I Blame Lacha
Sep. 4th, 2007 11:00 amFor the fact that I'm nauseous now. I don't know how, I don't care how, even though I'm on the other side of the country, I caught Lacha's ill. So I shall be very irate if you still feel sick today, given that I'm being goatlike for you.
In other news, I need to not not update.
Things I want to write:
-GODan
-DaHTA
-Pendulum
Things that want to be written:
-More on Crim and Bannin, for which I Blame Sparky
-More Baldr/Loki; Loki can be surprizingly angsty when he feels like it
-A poem that I thought while half asleep and it was perfect and now I can't remember most of it and it's driving me NUTS. The only thing I remember really clearly is "I want to take unto my soul the world."
My period has started, a fact which should not surprize me given that it's pill-induced and not natural and thus it always starts third Monday of the pill month, but it did catch me entirely by surprise.
Sandblasting small, sharp bits of metal is even less fun than screwing things to other things.
It is also Septemeber, ie, I miss work on Thursday and Friday next week and celebrate Rosh Hashana instead. It's like having an extra two Saturdays in a row.
Also, because this is Rosh Hashana, the Detroit area family will be doing our annual after-services pot luck (which, given the fact that the menu is planned weeks ahead of time and families are assigned which food to make and bring, isn't really a pot luck at all) on the first day.
We will be eating lunch with the S. family the second day, another Tradition. Mrs. S. is the paradigm of Jewish motherhood, which is to say, she generally cooks four chikkens and a cow and a whole farm's worth of vegetable matter for this meal. The fact that she also always invites twelve people in addition to her own clan (between three and five people) does not in any way change the fact that There Will Be Leftovers placed in disposable plastic containers and sent home with us. I don't mind. It's good cow.
Basic rundown of holidays, of which there will be too many in the next month.
Rosh Hashsana - 2 days, Jewish New Year
Aseret Y'mei Teshuva - 10 days, start on Rosh Hashana, time to say I'm sorry
Yom Kippur - 1 day, Day of Repentance
Succot - 8 days, first two and last two holy, autumnal harvest festival
Sh'mini Azteret - 1 day, last day of Succot, remember your dead family day
Simchat Torah - 1 night, begins sudown as soon as Succot ends, "We've finished the Torah time to stop, rewind, and repeat" festival
While all of this is going down, various seasonal prayers are being switched from summer mode to winter mode, we're having several "Remember our forebears" ceremonies, and faaaaaaaar tomuch fasting, which is to say, any at all.
More later.
